Dachau…

unspeakable, darkness, rooted in evil…

the silence lingers…

July 14, 2018

As I leave Dachau, I want to capture my thoughts, emotions, and overwhelming gratitude while I sit in silent remembrance and honor…I am deeply moved to my core and crying with an incredible wave of emotions. My heart is heavy! The travesty, the tragedy, the human side of us…beauty and ugliness, darkness and light…I have no words to adequately describe the experience and I but merely walked on sacred ground…grave site, bunker, medical chamber, “shower” chamber, gas chamber, the torture, medical experiments and more.

I seriously could not breathe at moments and sobbed.

The smell and feel of death is still and seeps into your being. My only solace is the givers, the Angel’s among them and us…be grateful for givers and thank God, He sends them!! In darkness we will always find light!!!! I can’t imagine having to stand as a force against evil which envelops others in such ways as Dachau. May God watch over us all, let us stand against evil together even in quiet ways!! Seeking and searching my own heart, I pray I am a giver always to the end and thank the defenders, the lions, who watch over and stand guard!!!

  1. Dachau. Just the word gives me an emotion hard to describe, and I’ve never been there. I’m glad you recorded your experience with words and photos at the time. We need to remember. We need to consider. We need to give thanks and yet be horrified. We need to feel those spirits, and let them know we feel them. We need to make sure the world never has Dachau again. Ever.

  2. You are an amazing soul. This is so powerful, so important, so guy wrenching. Let us never forget the sacrifices from our past.

  3. A few years ago, I read “Night” by Elie Wiesel, and your writing takes me back to the way I felt when I read that book.

    1. I love Elie Wiesel…when I was teaching we actually read Night and then had a Holocaust survivor come and speak…chilling, humbling, and impactful. I am in awe of how Elie Wiesel and so many others overcame such unspeakable acts. LYS
