This spring, as students graduated from high school and college during atypical ceremonies, I had the opportunity to write a poem for a group of young people as they moved on to the next phase of their lives. Perhaps I&#8217;m drawing on the encouragement I received at that age from people who helped me believe I could take the next step. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Your Story<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You will turn pages<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and advance through chapters of your life<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>where you come across stories of<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>such breathtaking joy<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>that you cannot believe how loved you are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And you will encounter narratives of such sorrow<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>that your knees will buckle in grief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your job is to keep reading&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do not strive for certainty<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>or see life as black or white&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Find the middle way<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hold all your stories gently<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and with hope.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s probably an understatement to say that 2020 has been challenging.
