{"id":652,"date":"2020-07-05T20:10:31","date_gmt":"2020-07-06T01:10:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/loveyoustrong.us\/?p=652"},"modified":"2020-07-06T11:58:16","modified_gmt":"2020-07-06T16:58:16","slug":"iamdawnnoelle-used-to-be","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/loveyoustrong.us\/index.php\/2020\/07\/05\/iamdawnnoelle-used-to-be\/","title":{"rendered":"USED TO BE"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<pre class=\"wp-block-verse\"><strong>S A T U R D A Y , &nbsp; M A Y &nbsp; 2 5 , &nbsp; 2 0 1 9&nbsp;<\/strong>\n<strong>a p p . &nbsp; 9 : 2 5 &nbsp; A M , &nbsp; C D T&nbsp;<\/strong>\n\n\nRemember how life used to be?\nAll the moments we shared are still in our subconscious.\n\nWhere are you now?\nI\u2019d love to know.\nThank God for social media, I can type in your\nname on a blue-lit screen\u2026\nand it will all be revealed to me in seconds.\n\nRemember when we would spend our parents\u2019 money on \nname-brand tee shirts, representing their labels and last \nnames on our chests?\nWhat good times, those are still embedded in my \nsubconscious file folders.&nbsp;\nFeels nice to know that they all dated way before \nthe cloud and snapchat\u2026\nBefore they could have been frozen in time&nbsp;\nfor all our online friends to stalk\u2026\n\nRemember when we would laugh at the inside jokes&nbsp;\non our slide phone text messages?\nThey were of our own humor, which no one understood.\n\nThe mean girls would never get it\u2026or even crack a \nsmile at me.\nJust the mere fact that I tried so hard to become a \n\u201ccool\u201d late 2000s preteen with my tacky \u201cinside \njokes\u201d bothered them\u2026especially the local Massie Block.&nbsp;*\nSo much that she robbed potential \nfriendships from my field\u2026\nWhat fragile people with low self esteem.\nI could care less now\u2026at twenty-one\u2026\nif I made \u201ccool\u201d inside jokes with my \nsister\u2026not one single shit.\n\n\n\nL I S T E N I N G &nbsp; T O\nAnna of the North, \u201cUsed to Be\u201d\n\n\n<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, I had written a pretty lengthy collection of poems, of which this one was a part. Ironically I haven&#8217;t been inspired to write much since I started posting my poems. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>* Massie Block was the main character in a popular book series at the time, The Clique, by Lisi Harrison. I loved those books in middle school. I strived to be like those five mean girls (I&#8217;m glad I failed LOL!!!). Massie was the Queen Bee of the Clique. She &#8220;called the shots&#8221; for her clique-mates, AKA &#8220;The Pretty Committee.&#8221; The &#8220;clique of friends&#8221; idea was so popularized at the time with the 2004 hit movie <em>Mean Girls<\/em>. I have hope for this new generation of teenagers.
