Twin B.
Dripping kerosene moonglow on the pavement, the sky thunders loudly and my wide-eyed little Riley Rae quickly crawls into the shadow of my footprints. She squeals and clutches to me as we run inside, where I give her warm milk and her favorite crackers to calm her fears. And suddenly, I am tangled within the facets of how she is the best part of me, spinning within the spiral of how beautiful her life is. Afraid that time will inch its way past me faster than I want it to, so I capture moments in the white frost of my mind and in…. photographs. Half of me wants to protect this baby girl from the rain of life forever, and the other half wants to let her feel all of the things, joy and sorrow, love and pain. I want her to know she can move mountains, curve the sidewalk when she needs it to turn. That I believe in her. I want her to become a humble badass, teach her that a hug or a handshake after a fight is a great lesson in humility. That people who are hurt tend to hurt others, I want her to mindful and not perpetuate that cycle. But for now, she is content with ice cream flavored thoughts, wild cherry and chocolate. She is just my wide eyed little Riley Rae, my tenacious twin B who prefers to be first in the alphabet instead. A quiet leader who sometimes needs to be reminded to slow down by her sweet, soulful twin brother. The sky claps loudly again and I look down at Riley. She is laughing and decides to dance while crumbling her crackers in my hair, rather than worry about the rain of life. Fearless angel who has discovered the art of living. She/Her and everything in between. Twin B. Riley Rae.

Yes! I see you teaching her this everyday! -“I want her to know she can move mountains, curve the sidewalk when she needs it to turn. That I believe in her. I want her to become a humble badass, teach her that a hug or a handshake after a fight is a great lesson in humility. That people who are hurt tend to hurt others, I want her to mindful and not perpetuate that cycle.” I love how you encourage and nurture her unique, young soul.
In honoring your daughter, you have managed to beautifully capture all the hopes and dreams I also have for my daughters, who are twins. Your daughter’s spirit sings through these words and pictures!
