Kent State, Vietnam
makes you ask, "Why, Uncle Sam"?
Space flights, moon landings
left the USA in high standings.
Desert Storm, Desert Shield
what did all that mayhem yield?
Saddam Hussein, he was insane
Now it all seems so inane.
New tech, high tech,
Play stations, space stations
all impacted many nations.
Walls go up, walls come down,
where in all this can peace be found?
Dr. King, Rodney King both in the throng,
Why can't we all just get along?
Terrorists strike on 9/11
made for our nation a nightmare heaven.
Oil wars and politics
heated up by selfish dicks.
Wall Street booms and Wall Street crashes
Housing and job markets bashes.
Clinton, Nixon and JFK
Now it's Trump in the fray.
Crazy times, I've seen plenty
But nothing compares to 2020.
World pandemic and protest marches
Quarantines and first responders.
Black lives matter, ALL black lives matter,
Millions jobless, economy splattered.
Politicians spewing hate
led by the president
What is our fate?
God help us all is my battle cry.
Please don't let our democracy die.

This. This is powerful, Lana. Its depth and emotion gave me tears. It’s truth. Thanks so much for sharing and putting it out there. I love your heart strong. Always have. Always will.
Here, here! I love how chaotic it feels, much like the history you tell, and the fate that is yet to unfold. It makes my brain spin, and my heart race, and FEEL.
WOW girl!!! LYS and thank you for this moving poem…with Ethan being deployed things make me cry and you know you just made me get chills and have leaky eyes 🙂
I heard this poem like a rap in my head when I first read it. It’s got a rhythm and rhyme with power behind it. Then I read it again and felt a quiet sense of desperation. There is a lot of richness in this. You tapped a lot of of feelings.
Cindye, thank you. You know how things just pop into your head and the only way to get them out is to write them down? That was this one, and as you say, a lot of feeling was tapped into with this. I am so glad that others can feel it, too.

Thanks, April. If that’s true, then I accomplished my goal.
